Jeannie Marie (Smith) Shaw

Jeannie Marie Shaw, 77, residing in Elkhart, passed away peacefully with family by her side, early Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024, at Elkhart General Hospital. Jeannie was born on June 2, 1946, in Oroville, California to the late Vernon and Genevieve (Tousignant) Smith. In addition to her parents, a son Joshua H. Shaw, two brothers, Vernon Smith Jr., Michael Smith, and her sister Mary (Michael) Lee, preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving daughters Heather Joy (Patrick) Hummer, Amanda Lynn Shaw; four grandchildren, Alex Ethell, Amareil James, Octavis Hazen Shaw, Treasure Miracle Shaw; two great-great grandchildren, Bailey Dickson, and Jose Hernandez IV; her sister Julie (Sanford) Yoder; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jeannie retired from St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and School, after 30 years of service, where she worked in the rectory and on the playground. Jeannie’s sobriety was core to her health, she was the manager at Serenity Hall for the last 15 years. She was very involved at Serenity Hall and has helped many people over the years with the 12-step program.

A woman of immense spirituality, she prayed the Rosary daily and was unwavering in her faith. Jeannie loved to read and was a huge Elvis Presley fan. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, quick wit and love for her children, grandchildren, and family. Per her wishes, no services will be held as cremation was chosen under the care of Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, Elkhart, IN  46514.
