Katherine Irene Herrli

ELKHART — Katherine Irene (Gerber) Herrli, 88, of Elkhart, went home to be with the Lord at 7:03 a.m. Wednesday morning, Feb. 8.

She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was a mother with her very last breath and always wondering how she could help those helping her.

She exemplified the servant attitude we are to show one another as Christians.

Katherine was at peace with her maker and ready for her journey home.

She was born  Aug. 24, 1928, in Kosciusko County, to the late John and Barbara (Yoder) Gerber.

In addition to her parents, three brothers, Val, Floyd and Mose Gerber and three sisters, Drusilla Yoder, Mattie Miller and Sarah Slabaugh preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon M. Herrli, whom she married on Nov. 24, 1948, and their children, Tim (Susan) Herrli, Tod (Renee) Herrli, Julia (Herrli) Castello; grandchildren Carley (Dan) Mayer, Cassandra (David) Haller, Lauren (Brian) Warner, Tanner Herrli, Trevor Herrli, Nathan Herrli, Natalie Herrli; and her great-grandchildren Ethan Mayer, Addison Mayer, Emmi Mayer and a baby to be born this summer in July.

She formerly worked in the office for Dr. Bender for four years and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Katherine enjoyed reading and sewing.

Services celebrating the life of Katherine Irene Herrli will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 ,with visitation with the family at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2222 W. Indiana Ave., Elkhart.

Pastor Jennifer Weaver will officiate.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow the services, with burial at a later date in Olive West Cemetery.

The family kindly request memorials in Katherine’s name to be given to the church.
