SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. — Karen A. Stout, 56, of Schoolcraft, passed away at 8:17 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at the home of her sister in Niles, after an extended illness.

She was born May 9, 1956, in Los Angeles to the late Rev. Charley F. Funderburk and Rhea M. (Antes) Funderburk, who survives her.

Also surviving are her sons, Mark S. (Antionette) Stout and Matthew W. “Matt” (Valerie) Stout; brother Brock A. (Sandy) Funderburk; sisters Gwen M. Parks, Amber R. (Corey) Askren, Penny (Jeff) Talley, Sharla (Toby) Spice, Shirlee (Mark) Dercole and Vickie (Mark Olinger) Richter; her significant other, Jake A. Goens; and eight grandchildren.

Along with her father, she was preceded in death by an infant brother and brothers Lester and Dennis Funderburk.

A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. A memorial service will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church, 28765 C.R. 4, Elkhart, at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning there at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow services at 2:30 p.m. in Kessington Cemetery in Union.

Karen was employed at Coca-Cola of North America in Paw Paw for more than 10 years. She will be best remembered for her high work ethic and her devotion and dedication to her sons and family. She enjoyed attending garage sales and was an avid knitter and crocheter and loved to make things for her grandchildren. She was also the salutatorian of her 1974 graduating class at Edwardsburg High School.
