Helen E. Brown

Helen E. Brown, 86 of Elkhart, passed away Thursday evening, May 4, 2017 at Eastlake Terrace. Helen was born on January 12, 1931 in Munising, Michigan to the late John Mark and Tyyni A. (Tarka) Schmidt. She married Robert H. Brown on July 1, 1954, he passed on February 17, 2015. Surviving are their children, daughters Debra (Michael) Platz of Elkhart, Sandra Chapman of Richmond, Va., sons Robert Brown and Steven (Kimbra) Brown, both of Elkhart and David (Wanda) Brown of Richmond, Va.; 3 grandchildren, Bryan Platz and Brett Platz, both of South Bend, Melissa Brown of Indianapolis; 2 great grandchildren, Braley Platz and Colt Platz; and her brother Fredrick (Lorraine) Schmidt of Elkhart. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a daughter Ramona Brown, step-daughter Elizabeth Earick, and siblings William Schmidt, Elsie Leffel, Martin Schmidt, Laura Dotson and Herbert Schmidt. Helen was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed golf and bowling, having participated in the Truth Roll-Off on several occasions in her younger years. She was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599 and was very active along with her husband Robert with Osolo Little League in many capacities over the years. After Robert retired, he and Helen spent 21 years in Las Vegas, enjoying all that area had to offer. Helen lived a full and happy life, she will be missed. She moved back to this area in 2014 to be with family.  In honoring Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family burial will take place at Rice Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. Donations may be made to Harbor Light Hospice.
