ELKHART — Harold S. Grieb, 92, of Elkhart, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Greenleaf Health Campus, Elkhart.
A lifelong Elkhart resident, he was born Jan. 8, 1925, to Laura Ellen (Welscott) and Henry Grieb, who both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann (Myers), whom he married on Nov. 23, 1947, in Elkhart; daughters Sue Ellen Grieb of Elkhart, and Ann (Mark) Goodman of Scottsdale, Arizona.; grandchildren Cara Jacobson of Scottsdale, and Cole Jacobson of Mishawaka; nieces Roberta (David) Honeywell of Pittsburgh; Julia (Jim [d.]) Croy of Elkhart; nephew William Funk of Elkhart and several great-nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death are a sister, Ellen (Marvin [d.]) Funk, brothers Arthur and Edward and nephew Walter (Teri) Funk.
He retired from The Selmer Co., North Main Street, Elkhart.
Harold was a longtime member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed antiquing, photography, his flower gardens and loved living on the river.
He is a former Indiana National Association for the Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) state and Elkhart County president and a former local UAW president.
He believed in finding joy in each day, regardless of circumstance and he did.
Services celebrating Harold’s life will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
The Rev. Michael Butler of Hillcrest United Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. until service time.
In honoring his wishes, cremation will follow the service.
