GOSHEN — Mrs. Emily J. Stiver, 75, of Goshen, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Courtyard Healthcare in Goshen, after an extended illness.

She was born in Clinton Township on June 3, 1937, to the late Oscar R. and Harriet E. (Freer) Tyson.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert W. Deal and Leland Stiver; brothers Don, Arthur, James and Terry Lee Tyson; and an infant daughter, Angela Denise Deal.

Surviving are her sons, Jonathan W. Deal of New Paris and Kevin R. Deal and Matthew J. (Dena) Deal, both of Goshen; daughter Kathleen E. (William) Haggerty of Dunlap; stepchildren Doris Lee (Hank) Savard of Manheim, Pa., and David Stiver Sr. of Tennessee; brothers Roger Tyson of California and Robert, Richard (Jan) and Roy (Mary) Tyson, all of Goshen; sisters Bonnie (Roy) Stinson of Oregon, Marlene Phenis of Elkhart and Marjorie (Bruce) Rider of Goshen; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at LifePoint Church, 1006 S. 16th St., Goshen, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by the funeral at 7 p.m. Pastor Troy Scott will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery in Goshen at a later date.

Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.

Emily was a 1955 graduate of Goshen and attended college in Florida and Illinois. She was employed at Johnson Controls for 15 years and also worked several years at Sorg Dodge in Goshen. She was a member of Goshen Women of the Moose 1047 and belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary at Goshen’s DAV 15 and VFW 985.
