Mr. Edward J. “Ed” Chomer, Jr., 92, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 8:20 pm.
He was born in Chicago, IL on Dec. 7, 1924 to the late Edward J. and Marie (Zahringer) Chomer, Sr. and later married Frances L. Smith in Elkhart on Jan. 3, 1948. She preceded him in death (2005) along with sisters Marie Campbell and Edith Osowski and son, Dr. John Chomer who passed on Feb. 28, 2016.
Surviving are his children James (Mary) Chomer of Middlebury, Terry (Shirley) Chomer of Goshen, and Jane (Bob) Lucier of Elkhart; daughter-in-law Lisa Chomer of Mary Esther, FL; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart will host Ed’s life celebrations beginning with a memorial visitation there on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 6-8 pm. A memorial mass will then be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main Street, Elkhart, with visitation beginning at 10 am, also at the church. The Reverend Matthew Coonan will officiate. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Ed worked at CTS of Elkhart for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Elkhart Council and served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII.
Memorial donations may be given to the church.
